Seven Gallery – Yusupha Tamba: L’Africa sostiene l’Africa

Yusupha Tamba è nato nel 1986 nella regione della costa occidentale del villaggio di Sibanor della Repubblica del Gambia.

Dopo il suo apprendistato come falegname, si è laureato tramite il President International Award Scheme a Bakau e si è trasferito a Brikama.

Già da bambino, Yusupha praticava i disegni a matita. Il noto artista regionale Sulayman Sanyang ha riconosciuto il talento di Yusupha in una fase iniziale e lo ha addestrato alla Street Art e alla pittura su tela. A quel tempo, usava principalmente colori ad olio o ad acqua.

Dal 2012, Yusupha utilizza quasi esclusivamente il colore acrilico su tela. A questo punto, ha aperto il suo laboratorio, una galleria d’arte chiamata “Yus – Artist –Gallery” a Kerrsering, vicino all’autostrada Sennegambia. Uno dei suoi primi clienti è stato il noto cantautore giamaicano del reggae, Luciano.

Yusupha si vede chiamato ad affrontare due grandi temi: l’arte stessa, ma anche il sostegno ai diseredati e bisognosi, in particolare i bambini, temi strettamente legati al suo background personale.

Lui, essendo uno dei sette figli, fu separato per circostanze dalla sua famiglia all’età di tre anni, dopodiché fu salvato da suo nonno, con il quale poi visse fino alla morte del nonno, sette anni dopo. Yusupha ha perso suo padre quello stesso anno. Non era più possibile tornare dalla sua famiglia. Così, da quel momento in poi, è stato ospitato dalla nonna di un amico.

Il Gambia è una delle nazioni più povere del mondo. L’obiettivo quotidiano per le famiglie lì, consiste nella costante lotta per trovare cibo per tutti i membri della famiglia. Argomenti come l’istruzione e, di conseguenza, il futuro, sono quasi inaccessibili per la maggior parte delle persone. Allo stesso tempo, il Gambia rappresenta l’Africa in una ricchezza di colore, bellezza, saggezza e mistica. Questi sono aspetti del Gambia che trovano un’espressione affascinante nell’arte di Yusupha.

L’Africa sostiene l’Africa: la migliore possibilità per una vera indipendenza e libertà. After his apprenticeship as a carpenter, he graduated through the President International Award Scheme in Bakau and moved to Brikama.

As a child, Yusupha practiced pencil drawings. Well-known regional artist Sulayman Sanyang recognized Yusupha’s talent at an early stage and trained him in Street Art and canvas painting. At that time, he mainly used oil or water colors.

Since 2012, Yusupha has been using almost exclusively acrylic paint on canvas. At this point, he opened his workshop, an art gallery called “Yus – Artist – Gallery” in Kerrsering, near the Sennegambia highway. One of his first clients was the well-known Jamaican reggae songwriter, Luciano.

Yusupha sees himself called to address two major themes: art itself, but also support for the dispossessed and the needy, especially children, issues closely linked to her personal background.

He, being one of seven children, was separated from his family by circumstances at the age of three, after which he was saved by his grandfather, with whom he then lived until his grandfather died seven years later. Yusupha lost her father that same year. It was no longer possible to return to his family. So, from then on, it was hosted by a friend’s grandmother.

Gambia is one of the poorest nations in the world. The daily goal for families there is the constant struggle to find food for all family members. Topics such as education and, consequently, the future, are almost inaccessible to most people. At the same time, the Gambia represents Africa in a wealth of color, beauty, wisdom and mysticism. These are aspects of the Gambia that find fascinating expression in Yusupha’s art.

Africa supports Africa: the best chance for true independence and freedom. In this way, through his art, Yusupha wishes to inspire especially the young and the young at heart to explore ways of perspective similar to those he did himself.
